🍎 Welcome to our Gingerbread Gallery! 🍪✨
This week, our classroom has been filled with the warm, festive fun of The Gingerbread Man story! The children have explored scents, textures, building, and creativity as they brought this classic tale to life.
We began with gingerbread-scented play dough, shaping our own gingerbread men and filling the room with a delicious aroma. The children also practised teamwork during gingerbread doodling, completing the missing half of a gingerbread man together. Using loose parts, they created a colourful giant gingerbread man, experimenting with shapes and patterns.
There was lots of problem solving as they built an escape bridge to help the gingerbread man get away from the fox—testing ideas, rebuilding, and celebrating when their designs held strong! Our building skills continued with gingerbread houses, using play dough as “cement” to form towers, cottages, and homes for tiny gingerbread men.
Festive crafts were a highlight, with the children making gingerbread bunting, shaping salt dough ornaments, and decorating them with paint and sparkles before hanging them proudly on our classroom tree. They even turned pinecones into glittery baubles to finish the decorations.
We ended the week with a sensory gingerbread tray, exploring ribbons, rice, buttons, and the cosy smell of gingerbread while practising fine motor skills and imaginative play.
