PLAY WORKER VACANCY 2025

Trelawnyd Little Learners Committee would like to appoint a Play Worker for our wraparound care provision. The ideal candidate will be a team player, able to build positive relationships with children and colleagues, and contribute towards providing a caring, safe and fun environment.

  • Up to 12 hours per week contracted Thursday and Friday (additional hours may be available)
  • 38 weeks per year, term time only
  • Salary: TBC
  • Start date: 2nd September 2025

Main duties include:

  • To contribute to the smooth running of wraparound Nursery provision and the maintenance of a safe, caring and stimulating environment
  • To assist in the provision of childcare and the delivery of a range of high-quality play and learning activities for children attending the provision
  • To support and supervise pupils attending the provision, promoting their general care and welfare
  • To contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school
  • To undergo training related to the role as required
  • To be aware of and comply with all relevant policies, procedures and requirements including hygiene, health and safety and safeguarding

Qualifications and Experience:

  • NVQ Level 2 Playworker or happy to work towards
  • Experience of working with 3-11year olds
  • Current 12-hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate
  • Good communication skills
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate

PLAY WORKER JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Job

  • To assist in the provision of childcare and the delivery of a range of high-quality play and learning activities for children attending the provision
  • To support and supervise pupils attending the provision, promoting their general care and welfare
  • To contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.
  • To be aware of and comply with all relevant policies, procedures and requirements including hygiene, health and safety and safeguarding

Specific duties and responsibilities

  • To establish and maintain good relationships with all children, parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals
  • To participate in activities, motivating and encouraging children, and helping them to develop their self-esteem and interaction with others
  • To supervise the use of play equipment and appropriate resources in a safe manner
  • To be aware of children who have physical, emotional or other needs and adapt activities to increase inclusivity
  • To carry out agreed daily routines ensuring health and wellbeing of children in the setting
  • To understand and implement the behaviour policy and code of conduct within the provision
  • To assist in providing any refreshments to pupils attending the provision considering any individual dietary requirements
  • To undertake general preparation, tidying up and cleaning duties within the provision
  • To be aware of and respond appropriately to individual needs
  • To assist children to acquire and develop self-help skills and independence
  • To be aware of any child’s medical condition/s and, under the instruction of the provision supervisor only, to give necessary regular treatment or medication with the written consent of parents and in line with policy
  • To administer appropriate first aid treatment and support to children as required in line with policy
  • To report any welfare and/or child protection concerns in accordance with policies

General

  • To support and encourage the provision’s ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the Voluntary Management Committee
  • To uphold the provider’s policy in respect of child protection and safeguarding matters
  • To undergo training related to the role as required
  • To hold an enhanced DBS
  • To perform any other reasonable tasks after consultation
